The Weather in Art | 24 Paintings, Sorting & Colour Matching
How can a painting make us feel a sunny afternoon, a rainy street or a windy sky? The Weather in Art combines twenty-four fine artworks with matching details, colour samples and weather sorting, creating a rich exploration of weather, art and visual clues.
WHAT'S INCLUDED
• 24 artwork cards featuring weather scenes.
• 24 corresponding 'I Spy' magnified-detail cards.
• 24 matching colour-swatch cards.
• 4 weather-category sorting cards: cloudy, rainy, sunny and windy.
• A control poster displaying the works, weather groupings, detail matches and colour references.
• Weather in Art discussion questions and instructions for three hands-on activities.
HOW TO USE
Sort the paintings according to the weather depicted, using signs such as clouds, umbrellas, light and wind-blown trees. Match the enlarged details to their original paintings, then pair each artwork with its colour-swatch card, noticing the artist's palette. Use the control poster to check work and the included prompts to discuss how colours, brushwork and other visual clues communicate weather. Older children may record their observations in an art journal.
SKILLS & LEARNING
Weather concepts and classification, visual discrimination, colour analysis, fine-art vocabulary, careful observation, independent checking and reflective communication.
PRINTING & PREPARATION
Print the cards and control sheet on bright white cardstock, then separate the pieces along the indicated cutting lines. Keep the control poster intact for reference.
