Wassily Kandinsky Art Cards | Abstract Art & I Spy
Discover the joyful world of Wassily Kandinsky through ten paintings full of colour, movement, shapes and abstraction. This Montessori-inspired artist study encourages children to look beyond recognizable objects and describe the lines, colours and feelings that abstract art can create.
WHAT'S INCLUDED
• 10 Kandinsky art cards.
• 10 corresponding enlarged artwork-detail circles.
• A Meet the Artist page introducing Kandinsky and his interest in music and abstract art.
• Let's Talk About Art conversation prompts.
HOW TO USE
Present one or two paintings first and ask children what shapes, lines or colours they notice. Match detail circles to the source art, then compare warm and cool colours, bold and gentle forms, and the sense of movement. Invite children to describe how a painting makes them feel or what music they imagine accompanying it. Print an optional second set for picture-to-picture matching. These artworks pair with the separate Skip Counting with Kandinsky set.
SKILLS & LEARNING
Close observation, visual discrimination, appreciation of art history, artistic vocabulary, matching, memory, and communicating observations and feelings.
PRINTING & PREPARATION
Print on bright white cardstock and cut along the grey dotted lines. Use a few works at first; add more cards as children develop familiarity. For duplicate-art matching, print a second copy of the art cards.
