Winslow Homer Art Cards | 10 Paintings & I Spy Details

Introduce American painter Winslow Homer with ten artworks that bring scenes of coastal life, working people and landscapes into your Montessori art-study routine. His skill at capturing people, water, nature and everyday experiences makes this set especially inviting for close observation and storytelling.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

• 10 artwork cards featuring Winslow Homer's paintings.

• 10 enlarged 'I Spy' detail circles.

• A Meet the Artist information page about Homer and his painting career.

• Let's Talk About Art open-ended discussion questions.

HOW TO USE

Lay out a small group of cards and discuss the setting, people and actions in each painting. Ask children to find the source of each enlarged detail. Compare coastlines, figures, weather and the use of light, then discuss what might have happened before or after a scene. Use the artist introduction to place the artworks in context. A second print of the art cards allows optional identical-picture matching; the collection complements Skip Counting with Homer, sold separately.

SKILLS & LEARNING

Close observation, visual discrimination, appreciation of art history, artistic vocabulary, matching, memory, and communicating observations and feelings.

PRINTING & PREPARATION

Print on bright white cardstock and cut along the grey dotted lines. Use a few works at first; add more cards as children develop familiarity. For duplicate-art matching, print a second copy of the art cards.
