Chances are, if you've made your way to this page, you are having trouble printing one of our resources. Technology can be so frustrating!

Fear not, there are easy ways to address most issues - we've posted the most troubleshooting for the most common issues here. â€‹

Password to print

I need a password?

There isn’t a password required to open, save or print any of our files.

There could be a couple of reasons why you are being asked for a password:

  1. You are on a Mac and it is trying to open and print the file via Preview

  2. You are trying to open the file via a PDF viewer other than Adobe

  3. You are trying to open the file in another application (like PhotoShop)

There are a couple of solutions that seem to work for most:

  1. On a Mac, set Adobe as your default PDF viewer (bypass Preview)

  2. Ensure you have the most current version of Adobe installed

  3. Open the file from within Adobe to print

Another thing that seems to randomly help (and I don’t actually know why), is downloading the file using a different browser (Chrome if you used Safari, etc)

Black Boxes

eek - black boxes!

The dreaded black boxes occasionally appear around images when printing from an Apple product (phone, Mac, etc.) or when printing from a web based PDF reader.

The good news is that the fix is pretty simple (phew)!

Here are the steps to follow to get rid of those ugly black boxes:

  • Make sure you have the most up-to-date version of Adobe installed on your computer. This is the most important step!

  • Adober Acrobat Reader is available free here.

  • Save the file that you want to print to your computer.

  • Open the Adobe application on your computer.

  • Open the file you wish to print from within the Adobe application (not the web version, but the desktop version).

  • Print a test page from the file.

This should do the trick!

Still having issues?

Some users may still have trouble despite following the instructions above. If that is the case, the other option is to choose "print as image". Open the resource in Adobe and then:

  • Choose File –> Print

  • Click on Advanced

  • Check the “Print as Image” box and click OK.

  • Click the Print button

If you are a Mac user, you may need to bypass Preview as your default PDF opener. To do this, right click on the file name, and in the drop down, choose Open With –> Adobe Acrobat Reader.
