By the Sea Art Cards | 16 Summer Paintings & Montessori Activities
Discover summertime at the shore through sixteen paintings by thirteen different artists. From beach play to water's-edge scenes, this Montessori-inspired art collection lets children compare how artists capture light, movement, people and the sea—and turns those observations into purposeful matching and sorting work.
WHAT'S INCLUDED
• 16 beach-themed artwork cards, each displaying the work's title and artist.
• Corresponding enlarged 'I Spy' detail-circle cards.
• Larger painting pages to make simple three-piece picture puzzles.
• Two activity-sorting labels: 'playing in the sand' and 'playing in the water'.
• Art-discussion prompts and instructions for card matching, detail matching, puzzles, sorting and colour matching.
HOW TO USE
Compare and match duplicate artwork cards (print a second copy for this activity). Use the detail circles to search for small parts of each painting. Make three-piece puzzles from the larger paintings and compare them to full-art references. Then sort the paintings by whether the principal subjects are playing in sand or in water, talking about paintings that show both; optionally add your own colour tiles to find colours within each scene.
SKILLS & LEARNING
Art appreciation, visual discrimination, sorting and classification, scene interpretation, attention to detail, spatial relationships, colour recognition and oral language.
PRINTING & PREPARATION
Print on bright white cardstock of approximately 65 lb or heavier. Cut art and detail cards along the grey dotted lines; print and divide the larger artwork sheets separately for puzzles. A second printed set and optional colour tiles support extra activities but are not additional unique cards in the download.
Digital PDF download; no physical cards are shipped.
