Real-image CVC word puzzle cards in black lettering, showing the two-piece consonant and vowel construction

CVC Word Puzzles | 48 Real-Image Two-Piece Puzzles – Black Letters

US$6.00Price

Invite beginning readers to make a word they can actually see! This hands-on set of 48 two-piece CVC puzzles helps children put short-vowel words together, sound out the three letters and check their work against a real photographic image. The black lettering edition has the same word selection, images and learning activities as the other colour version, making it easy to choose the script presentation that suits your classroom.

WHAT’S INCLUDED

• 48 different two-piece CVC word puzzles (96 pieces in total), representing the five short vowels a, e, i, o and u.

• 48 larger pieces with the beginning and ending consonants and 48 matching central vowel pieces.

• Real-image pictures that align when the two pieces are joined and serve as a built-in control of error.

• Black letters throughout the puzzles.

HOW TO USE

Choose a small number of puzzles, ideally featuring the same short vowel. Separate the larger consonant pieces from the central vowel pieces and invite the child to match them. Once an image is complete, point to each letter, make its sound, blend the sounds and read the word. Continue with another short vowel family as fluency develops. The picture supplies visual feedback without requiring an adult to immediately give the answer.

SKILLS SUPPORTED

Segmenting and blending three phonemes; decoding short-vowel CVC words; vowel identification; phoneme-grapheme correspondence; visual discrimination; independent error checking; fine-motor puzzle assembly.

PRINTING & PREPARATION

Print the preferred pages on bright white cardstock and cut on the dotted lines. The Montessori-colour edition lets you print only the chosen colour arrangement.

The five vowel families are represented in different quantities because some vowel sounds have more easily pictured CVC nouns than others.
