Sunflowers in Art Cards | 10 Paintings & I Spy Details

Celebrate sunflowers through the eyes of different artists. This ten-work collection allows children to compare how the same familiar flower can look strikingly different in colour, texture, composition and feeling—from van Gogh's sunflower bouquets to other artistic interpretations.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

• 10 sunflower-themed artwork cards by a selection of artists.

• 10 matching enlarged image-detail cards.

• A short illustrated information page about Vincent van Gogh's sunflower paintings.

• Let's Talk About Art discussion prompts for guided looking and conversation.

HOW TO USE

Offer a few sunflower paintings and invite the child to compare their colours, shapes, backgrounds and arrangements. Use the magnified-circle cards for 'I Spy' detail matching. Talk about why an artist might choose a fresh bouquet, flowers gone to seed or a dramatic colour palette. After exploring the van Gogh background page, compare his approaches with those of other artists. A second printed set of artwork cards may be used for identical-image matching.

SKILLS & LEARNING

Close observation, comparison of artistic styles, plant-and-flower vocabulary, colour analysis, visual discrimination and conversation about art.

PRINTING & PREPARATION

Print on bright white cardstock and cut the 10 full art cards and 10 corresponding detail circles along the dotted lines.
