Vincent van Gogh Art Cards | 10 Paintings & I Spy Matching

US$3.00Price

Invite children into the colourful, expressive world of Vincent van Gogh through ten reproductions of his paintings. From the swirling skies of Starry Night Over the Rhône and the vivid blue irises to the familiar room in The Bedroom, this Montessori-inspired artist study encourages thoughtful observation of brushstrokes, colour, composition and everyday scenes.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

• 10 fine-art cards featuring paintings by Vincent van Gogh, including The Bedroom, Wheat Field with Cypresses, Starry Night Over the Rhône, Irises and The Sower.

• 10 enlarged circular “I Spy” detail cards, with one matching detail for each painting.

• A “Meet the Artist” introduction to van Gogh, his life and the distinctive painting techniques for which he is known.

• “Let's Talk About Art” discussion prompts to guide looking, comparing and conversation.

HOW TO USE

Introduce a small number of art cards and invite the child to look quietly before describing what they notice. Ask about the colours, shapes, subjects and visible brushstrokes, then compare how van Gogh depicted interiors, landscapes, flowers and people. His bold use of colour offers a natural starting point for talking about mood, light and artistic choices.

For the included “I Spy” activity, present several full paintings alongside their magnified detail circles. Examine each detail carefully and search for the corresponding location within the complete painting. As confidence grows, introduce more pairs. You can also print two copies of the artwork cards for picture-to-picture matching or play simple visual memory games with smaller groups.

Read the “Meet the Artist” page and use the discussion questions to invite open-ended responses. What do you see first? How might the scene feel? Where do you notice repeated marks or colours? These activities are well suited to Montessori art appreciation shelves, elementary artist studies, visual perception practice and family art conversations. The artworks also coordinate with the separately available Skip Counting with van Gogh resource.
